#### First-Grade Geometry and Measurement Skills

Know the names of and recognize basic shapes.

Identify 2D and 3D shapes.

Use a ruler to measure in inches and centimeters.

Begin learning about fractions and work with halves, fourths, quarters, and thirds.

Organize, represent, and interpret data.

## First-Grade Geometry and Measurement Worksheets

First-grade students will expand their shape vocabulary and should recognize two-dimensional shapes such as a circle, square, rectangle, triangle, and trapezoid. By the end of first grade, students will recognize three-dimensional shapes such as cubes, spheres, and cones. You can encourage shape recognition by providing a variety of paper shapes for your child to format into pictures (i.e. build a train out of squares, circles, and triangles).

To help your child become confident in measuring, allow them to measure household objects or family members height and weights, then compare their measurements and discuss the results.

Depending on your child's abilities, you may wish to review these geometry and measurement worksheets.

Count and Connect - Students will count by 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 to connect the dots. If students have counted and connected the dots correctly, they will have drawn a circle, star, triangle, rectangle, and square.

Introduction to Cubes: Worksheets 1 and 2 - Students will learn about a cube and answer questions regarding the images provided.

Cylinders: Worksheets 1-2 - Students will learn about a cylinder, complete the drawing of a cylinder, and write the word cylinder.

Introduction to Spheres: Worksheets 1 and 2 - Students will learn about a sphere and answer questions about the images provided.

Shapes with Two Equal Parts - Students will examine a number of shapes and color the shapes with two equal parts.

Learning About One-Half - Students will color one-half of each shape that shows two equal parts.

Fraction Manipulatives and Worksheet - This set of fraction manipulatives can be used to introduce 1/2, 1/4, 1/3, and one whole to your students. If you print and laminate these fraction manipulatives they may be used repeatedly in the classroom or at home. A beginning fraction worksheet is included in this set.

Measure the Length: Worksheet 1 - Students will measure items up to six inches in length and record the measurement.

Measure the Length: Worksheet 2 - Students will measure items up to fifteen centimeters in length and record the measurement.

Measure the Length: Worksheet 3 - Use the rulers provided on this worksheet to measure items commonly found at home or school and record the measurements.

Bobby Banana's Garden - Count the fruit and color the graph to show how many of each.

Graphing Farm Animals - Students will record the number of farm animals shown on the graph and complete both picture and number patterns.
